20 March, 2024This 8-day Eastern Bhutan cultural tour was an extraordinary journey into the heart of authentic Bhutanese traditions! Starting from Samdrup Jongkhar at the Indo-Bhutan border, we travelled through stunning mountain landscapes to reach the hidden gems of Trashigang and Trashi Yangtse. The visit to Chorten Kora - the white stupa built in Nepalese style - was deeply spiritual. Gomkora Lhakhang's sacred rock imprint of Guru Rinpoche left us awestruck. Mongar Dzong perched on the cliff was breathtaking! The traditional weaving villages near Khoma showcased exquisite kishuthara textiles - we purchased beautiful handwoven scarves directly from artisans. Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary gave us glimpses of rare black-necked cranes. Our guide's knowledge of local Sharchop and Tshangla cultures enriched every moment. The traditional farmhouse homestay experience was unforgettable!

The weavingvillages around Khoma and Radhi are living museums of intricate kishuthara and aikapur textile traditions. Watching master weavers create complex patterns on traditional backstrap looms was mesmerizing. Trashigang Dzong, the largest fortress in Eastern Bhutan, overlooks the dramatic Drangme Chhu valley magnificently. Lhuentse Dzong, ancestral home of Bhutan's royal family, holds incredible historical significance. The sacred Chorten Kora pilgrimage site hosts the annual Chorten Kora Festival - the local devotion was palpable. Trashi Yangtse's wood carving and paper-making traditions showcased living heritage. Bumdeling's black-necked crane sanctuary was a naturalist's delight. The journey through pristine Eastern valleys untouched by mass tourism felt like stepping back in time. Our kids were fascinated by the border town atmosphere of Samdrup Jongkhar where Bhutanese and Indian cultures merge. The scenic drive to Trashigang through terraced rice fields and traditional villages was spectacular. Mongar Dzong's architecture and Mongar's weekend market bustling with local Sharchop tribes was vibrant. Gomkora Lhakhang's sacred cave temple where Guru Padmasambhava meditated captivated everyone. At Chorten Kora, we joined locals in circumambulation - a profound spiritual experience. Trashi Yangtse's traditional crafts demonstration showed our children how ancient skills survive. Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary trek spotting endangered black-necked cranes was thrilling. The traditional Bhutanese cuisine (ema datshi, red rice, momos) was delicious. The route through Trashigang district revealed authentic Sharchop tribal culture - colorful traditional dress, unique dialect, and warm hospitality. Lhuentse Dzong's significance as birthplace of Bhutan's monarchy added historical depth. The sacred Gomkora temple's annual tshechu festival legends were fascinating. Chorten Kora's striking white stupa against blue skies is iconic. Traditional weaving demonstrations at Khoma village showing intricate brocade patterns took my breath away - these textiles take months to complete! Trashi Yangtse's woodcarving school preserving ancient Buddhist art forms was inspiring. Bumdeling's pristine wilderness hosting migratory cranes reinforced Bhutan's conservation commitment. The mountain scenery along Eastern Lateral Road with rhododendron forests and cascading waterfalls was stunning. This is authentic Bhutan before mass tourism - book now!
